Happenings in the past month
Women’s Open – another very successful weekend with glorious weather. There was much discussion around holding it again in October but our fixtures calendar is proving too full to accommodate this, so it will be moved to slightly later in September.
Labour Weekend Ambrose – Another full field of competitors and an enjoyable afternoon.
Club Championship Finals – these were played in atrocious conditions, thanks to the even braver souls that came out to watch. Silver women – Karen Barbour from Vicki Moss, Bronze Women Dawn Goode from Penny Stonyer. Senior Men - John Strahl from Dave Neve, Intermediate Men - Paul Coltart from Simon Johnston, Junior Men – Pete Thomas from Stu Cookson.
Shirley and Colin Simpson 27-hole stableford – due to the poor weather, this event that is usually run in conjunction with the Finals of the Championships, was rescheduled to the following Saturday and played in fine hot conditions with some good scoring, the winner Women – Maxine Moss and Men - Malcolm Steele
Matchy Matchy – Courts and Corks mixed doubles tennis tournament, this is being rescheduled, a confirmed date will follow. Our main tennis events planner Kate Twigg has had to take leave from the Committee due to personal reasons, but others are stepping up in her absence. We thank you for your work, Kate, and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Committee Meeting Notes - The tennis court renovations just need the netting attached; all new signage is being developed.
- The Committee looked at the concept plans supplied by the two architects we engaged and decided to go with Aspect Architecture for the further development of the plans for the clubhouse. We have a working group that will now drill down into some details and we are hopeful of having some draft plans for discussion and input by the membership during the summer break
- Our annual accounts are back from the auditor and are included with the AGM documents. Nomination sheets for the Main Committee are on the noticeboard, we would love to have you join us, please add your name and find a nominator. If you have any questions, please call Karen Barbour.
- As from the 1st Dec we will be introducing an increase in the bar pricing, we have not had any changes in our pricing since 2018 but, due to increased overheads in both product and staffing costs, it is timely that we put a small price increase in place. This will be an average of 10% across the board.
- The programme for 2022 is in the pipeline and should be completed and available shortly.
- Remember this year’s subs are now due, to the 60% that have already paid, thank-you!
- COVID Vaccination Policy – the committee is investigating this option and have requested member feedback. Please look out for separate email relating to this.
- Susie Simcock Leadership Award – In its inaugural year this scholarship has been awarded to our very own Bec’s O’Neale for the 2021/2022 year. We as a committee know her value and now others have recognised it as well. Congratulation’s Bec’s.
See you all around the Club Soon!
