RBGC Member Update - April 2022

With both Easter and Anzac falling in April, not to mention some lovely weather, the clubhouse and course have been extra busy. It's great to see everyone out there enjoying themselves at Orange, things are starting to feel a bit more normal!

Recent Happenings

On Saturday the 9th April a field of 30 club members played for the Basil Bodle Memorial Trophy. Congratulations to the winner Bruce Robb with runner-up Simon Kerr

Another huge field of 32 pairs played in the Karen Brien Memorial 2 person Ambrose on Sunday 17th April. Winners were Craig Starnes and John Oliver, runner-up Todd Scoble and Nick Astwich.

Coring of the greens has been hampered by the weather, not as much sand has been spread as would be desirable but never the less we will soon see the benefit of this work. Thank you for your patience while we continue to maintain our course.

Upcoming Events

Club Matchplay Competitions

Please note in order to play any of the club competitions you are required to have a current handicap, there has been some confusion around this. Matches are proceeding well please continue to be vigilant, the weather will turn nasty soon to be sure!

Olive Picking - Sunday 8th May

We are excited to announce that olive picking will actually happen this year! Please see attached poster for more details, it would be great to have as many volunteers as possible.

Keeper of the Greens - Saturday 14th May

As our usual Club Day, tee off at 1:00pm. ALL RBGC members (handicap/non handicap holders) are eligible to play. This is a two player ambrose competition, teams may be men, women or junior. Handicaps are irrelevant - the Polish Peoria adjustment will create the team handicap once you have submitted your score. Grab a partner and join this unique to Riversdale Beach competition. See poster for more details.

Committee Meeting Update

Photographer Wanted - The committee is interested in updating the photos on our website, we are looking for a member with some photography skills that would be interested in taking a range of good quality photos both of the course, clubrooms and tennis courts that we could use. If you are interested in helping us out contact Bec’s.

We ran a raffle over the Easter weekend in support of the Wellington Free Ambulance and also had a donation facility at the bar. Thanks to all that contributed $500 was raised. The committee agreed that this would be an annual commitment.

The club has seen a surge in Green Fee Players at the club which is great for our club finances. Remember we have a number of ways to pay for Green and Court fees, this can be done when booking on line, using the QR Code in the foyer (Just hold the camera app on your phone to the code and it will direct you to the payment options) using the bank account number displayed on the wall or old-fashioned cash put in the envelope is accepted as well. As our office is not staffed full time, there are always a few that do not pay for the privilege to play on our course, all members may question casual players about payment of green fees as long as this is done with consideration and respect.

A number of fully paid members are yet to collect their membership cards, these can be collected from the office if it is open or the bar.

Anzac Day at RBGC

Our Anzac morning dawn flag raising ceremony attracted approximately 20 people this year, it was great to see everyone there and proved a very moving experience. Special thanks to our military volunteer who did the honours, and to those who got out of bed early to attend. We will continue this new tradition and invite all those who wish to attend to do so on next year's Anzac day.
